And operators work the way you expect them to.

That's one of the things about google that irritates me, operators seem like they are totally ignored by their search engine.

That's one of the things about google that irritates me, operators seem like they are totally ignored by their search engine.

Not only that, but I'm still waiting for a search engine that actually uses the characters on the keyboard in the logical operative sense for which they were (in part created), such as "&" for and, etc.

It takes up a tiny % of the screen. You get the same results you would otherwise with just some other crap added.

Google has indexed about 75% of the 400k posts on the web forum I run whereas Bing has indexed about 5%. I'm told this is typical.

Another option is to use dogpile which will give you results from all the major search engines without google's crap thrown in.

As I said earlier in a different thread:

So? I'd still trust Google far more than I'd trust Microsoft. All I have to remember is "DOS isn't done till Lotus won't run". And that was when they were considered "good guys". It's been all downhill since.

The only reason Bling isn't doing the same or worse is that MS hasn't rolled out their "social network" yet. Emphasis on Yet.

My Chrome browser has totally spat the dummy on all sorts of levels and functions after the change. I can't go to half the sites I usually do, as many are foreign sites and I used auto-translate. But somehow, most of the pages simply won't load anymore.
And searching is totally screwed: unreliable, wildly inconsistent - and not just on my browser's search bar, but on any search box I use on any site. I'm assuming that because I'm using Chrome, it commandeers all search boxes on every site I visit.
Very screwed up. Major fuck up from my perspective - and now I'm trying to figure out alternatives.
Looks like it's back to Firefox and possibly Yahoo for me.

That quote is a myth. Always was. Even MS-loving Slashdot agrees.

You probably have no idea how *hard* it is to keep other peoples' buggy code working while you try to change the underlying system. It's a nightmare. MS works their ass off to preserve compatibility with the crap that 3rd party vendors produce. (And I don't use the word "crap" lightly -- I've done research on this.)
